Jimmy's Recipe Malaysian Restaurant, TGV Sydney

Hainanese Chicken Rice at Jimmy's Recipe MalaysiaHainanese Chicken Rice

Checking out Malaysian foodstuffs at Jimmy's Recipe

One day some time ago, we were walking around the city when we realised our stomachs were grumbling. Aha! This could only mean one thing! TIME FO R LUNCH!

After we realised this we still walked around for another hour looking for somewhere that was (1) YUMMY and (2) CHEAP and (3) had room for all six of us during the lunch hour rush = =

Finally, we turned the corner in The Galleries Victoria and found Jimmy's Recipe Malaysia.

Haha you can see Nessa and her Christmas hat walking up the stairs

Beef laksa ~ $7 AUD

According to the menu, Jimmy's laksa is "the best in Sydney". It's definitely good value for money! The whole restaurant sings with the smell of their signature curry noodle soup, cooked with fresh chilli, coconut milk, sambal and lemon grass, with kicking herbs and spices chucked in for good measure

Close up of Hainanese Chicken Rice~ $8

Chicken rice served with 'special' cuts of chicken, cucumber slices, chilli & ginger sauce and a bowl of clear veggie soup. The green coriander makes this dish look and taste fresh fresh

The chicken bits in the rice come out and randomly surprise you with flavour as you chomp on the rice ~ I like how Jimmy's serves chicken rice instead of the usual bowl of white rice. This is smart and economical !! coz it gives them something to do with any leftover chicken (like how they recycle the duck meat in peking duck noodles)

Vegetables Laksa - the cheapest full-size meal at $5.80!

A hot bowl of finger-sized beans, carrots, peas, cabbage and other assorted veggies, cooked in spicily fragrant, coconutty laksa ~

When you can pay six-seven bucks for a nice big bowl of laksa in the city (you can't tell how big it is from the photo! I'll take a ruler next time, gomen = = ) with smiley speedy service, it's no wonder that the dudes from Challenger like to come here and stuff themselves during lunch break !

Won Ton Noodle Soup~ $7

Jimmy's also sells chicken/lamb/fish curry, beef rendang, nasi lemak, murtabak.

For busy people needing a quick grab-and-takeaway, there were veggie spring rolls, curry puffs, satay chicken sticks and roti canai out at the front.

More Malaysian foods stuck to the wall

Bring your spare change and eat like a king XD
