Kobow Korean BBQ Restaurant, Sydney

These are photos from a long loong time ago, taken at KOBOW Korean BBQ/restaurant, which is on Liverpool St in the city near Sushi-Rio and French Riviera.

Haha KOBOW! Doesn't that word sound like the sort of sound you'd make if you were punching someone and being punched at the same time? *...yes, yes it does!*

Korean Omurice Omelette with fried rice inside at Kobow Korean BBQKorean omurice! An omelette with fried rice tucked inside, and BBQ sauce drizzled on top! <3

There was also a little takoyaki stall near the front of the restaurant, selling delicious octopus balls served with bonito flakes on top. WOW, you haven't really LIVED until you've been served a fresh batch of takoyaki - the hot air from the takoyaki balls moves through the bonito flakes and makes them LOOK LIKE THEY'RE ALIVE.

Anyway, our box of takoyaki had us (or me, at least) enthralled for about five minutes, before we went in for the kill ...grawr! I have a photo of our takoyaki box but as it is extremelyy blurry I will spare you the download.

Beef bones Soup Bowl at Kobow Korean BBQBeef bones soup bowl - a hearty and deliciously warming soup dish with egg, wintermelon chunks and noodles curling inside

I remember this restaurant had a display cabinet of fake (but very realistic looking) example dishes at the front, made of plastics and special 'food-mould' clay. Apparently that's quite common for the bigger restaurants in Korea.

All in all, the food was very decent, but for some reason we haven't been back since. Probably because soon after, we found out there was a whole slew of interesting Korean restaurants along Pitt and Goulburn St.

Lovely photos!

I could really do with some kimchi fried rice right now... it's icy cold outside, and I love the way kimchi warms you up from the inside out!

@Gemma- thanks! Mm I'm not terribly good with spicy foods myself but with a cup of cold water by my side, I'll agree with you that that kimchi fried rice is lovely and warming (and it adds a nice red colour hehe)

@Paranoid About Banksia Men- I'd be careful if I were you. Takoyaki attracts the banksia men like nothing else.

Korean cuisine rocks

I think I've been to some of the ones along Pitt and Goulburn Street (Seoul Ria and Zozo) but I have yet to try Kobow.

The food looks good though, I'll have to give it a try.

@Jamie- I love all the little side dishes you get in Korean restaurants. And Zozo! I've been wanting to go there for a while now. Kobow is worth a visit, if just to sample the takoyaki

@thunderstormchild- omurice is king! Eating an omurice package is kind of like eating a ginormous dumpling, there are all these good things inside waiting to be discovered :)
